Great idea to join! I have been canoeing in the Q for decades and still find a lot of good information on BWCA.com It is a great resource for me.
I hope you end up feeling the same way

Well, welcome to the group. My crews and I made our first Quetico trip as a Boy Scout in 1967, got hooked, and had 19 trips by 2010. Then in 2011, I did a Google search for lake trout fishing in Quetico Lake, and discovered BWCA.com.

Since then, access at least weekly, and the site has not only provided good sharing of experiences, but has also helped fill out crews with canoeist joining us from Kentucky, West Virginia, and even Israel.

Here you can share your trips, ask questions, and find out about what to expect with your own trip plans. Equipment advice, and even discuss selling your equipment.
Trip #30 coming up for me in 2019.

Hi John:
Met you at Canoe Canada last year. We both just finished our trips. This year you had just left the hour before we got in. Stay well in Calgary. Maybe your wife will join you for your 50th. Just stay away from Louisa Falls on Agnes. All the bears operate the hotel there. Stay well.

It’s coming back to me. I do remember meeting you but memories are disappearing more rapidly these days. Too bad I missed you this year it would have been good to see you again.

I have a funny story for you. I was coming from Dore to Pickeral and I met a group of four coming in. I explained that they probably would have trouble in Dieux Riviere because of low water and one of the said if he carried one of my packs back with me would I give him more advice on their route. So why kick a gift horse in the mouth. We had a nice chat and I gave him my two cents worth. When we got to the other side he ask me how old I was and I told him. He then told me was 80 and I nearly passed out because he could have passed for sixty and probably would have to show id to get senior rates. So there is still hope that I can keep doing this a while longer.

Good to hear from you.

Great story ! So with the Dieux Riviere with low water where did you send them ? Back thru Beg Bud and Bisk ? or the Jim Clark advice " Just get on a moose trail and go around it " God only known where you would wind up. Any more bass fishing for you this year on Woodside ?

I told them to put on their bathing suits and hip waders and walk it.

I spent ten glorious hours on Woodside this year in forty degree weather with a twenty mile per hour wind and caught 150 bass. I would love to go back but it is getting too hard to get there from the north side. But at least I have another great memory.

Where did you go this year?

I have about 30 trips done in Quetico. Anxious to get back up there next year. Welcome to the board. Lots of great people here, especially a lot of knowledgeable Q paddlers!

I wish I would have kept track. Usually 2-3 times a year. Only twice this year. A couple of years made it 4 times. I have been at it at this pace for about 40 years, although went a few times before that.
Yep, should have kept track. Don't have 40 more years in me but hope to continue to hit the Q for years to come.

Just realized I spent a whole lot of money on the Q permit costs over the last 40 years. Likely in the neighborhood of $15,000. If I would have invested that money I could have had a nice pot of money all of these years later.
It amounts to $15,000 for a lifetime of fun, solitude, friendship, woods, water, campfires and good times.
A lifetime of them.
What a bargain.

Welcome to the group. Our first trip was in 1978. We have been up almost every year since then. We have driven up from South Georgia with the canoe on the vehicle. Probably have driven 90,000 miles with the canoe on top of the vehicle. Last year we flew to Duluth and rented a car to drive the rest of the way. You will enjoy the board.
