I have a map that shows a hiking trail from Echo Trail Road between EP 16 and 19 in to Stuart Lake and continuing to a ranger cabin on LLC. It’s labeled LLC Trail. Another hiking trail that runs from EP 20 past Angleworm (not circumnavigating Angleworm) between Fairy and Boot and up to a ranger cabin on Crooked. I’ve read some reports from a few years ago but does anyone have any current info on the trail conditions on these 2 trails? Thanks
There were a number of trails the forest service used which are now abandoned. They still appear on some maps. I've tried to find the trail near Angleworm to no avail. I think Portagekeeper has written about the trail near Stuart River.
He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone; He's a man who won't fit in.
If you are on your toes and have plenty of time, you can find your way to Stuart on the old LLC trail. Beyond Stuart I have traced it to the top of the rock hill that overlooks the lake but lost it crossing the rock. Also looked for it from the Stuart/Nibin portage but couldn't locate where it crossed. Found where it crossed the Stuart/Fox portage and followed it for a bit but didn't have time to mess with it that day. I asked the FS if I could work at reopening the trail but they look at it as yet another trail to maintain and since it ends at the ranger station with no place to camp..... I also tried locating the trail to Crooked from Angleworm but it's just been too long and there is no trace left behind. Same with the trail to Sunday Lake. It doesn't take many fires, wind storms and beaver activity to give them back to nature. There were many other trails out there. Most had telegraph wire strung beside them to a fire tower or ranger cabin that has since been picked up. Good luck!

There is a trail that that runs around Ram Lake. Not sure where it originates or why it's there but, someone sure put a lot of effort into developing it. See day 3 of this trip report.
