For a few years when it was on tap at The Chocolate Moose it was brewed in New Ulm, Minnesota by the fine folks at Schell's Brewing.

I had it at the Gunflint Tavern. Bought it on impulse because of the name. Didn't care for it. Too stout for me.

I know at CBO on Moose lake they had something called "Pig's eye beer" which certainly didn't go with the theme of the BWCA in my opinion.... The reason I brought it up was I bought an American Flyer train item on ebay who called himself mooseman5 or something like that. When I asked him why he had that handle he said he was one of the guys who started brewing " Moose Drool Beer" out in Montana....

Pigs Eye is a classic Minnesota beer...although terrible. “ Pigs Eye” was actually the City of St. Paul’s original name. Good call changing that one. Cheers to drinking beers!

Many years ago we were on a family vacation out west and came across Moose Drool. We liked it, so bought a 6 pack -of bottles- and carefully brought it back to WI. Only to discover a short time later that it was available in certain stores around here!

Why not? Pierre Parrant was a French-Canadian fur trader. Might as well dump any association with those French-Canadian voyageurs too.

Hmm, I’ll have to ask around about that. I’ve been one of the brewers there for going on 7 years and I’ve never heard mention of us making moose drool as a contract brew. I know they did all the Spanish Peaks brews before my time.

I remember going up to Ely fishing with a couple buddies, prob late 80's. We saw Pig's Eye in the store and had to try it. Cool name, not a good beer. I think a name can get a beer purchased....one time. Fell for a couple other gimmicky beer names too. There once was a beer called "Nude Beer". Something about the label, which pictured a woman. As you drank the beer, the temp or something made the clothing disappear. Bad beer. (Hey, I was in my 20's, so no grief about buying it, ok?)
Another one, which a group of us also purchased while in Ely, was a beer named "Brewski". "Haha - hey, how about a couple cold brewskis?". We were a group of four. One guy was out somewhere while three of us tried it. Terrible beer. Three left. We tried to "sell it" to the other guy upon his return, touting its virtues and what a great beer it was. He saw right through us. When we left, 3 Brewskis remained in the Smitty's cabin refrigerator. :)

That’s a good one. I like the Nude beer concept. I’d like to try that out.

Probably mid-nineties? Big Sky Brewing had maxed out production and were in the process of building their large brewery in Bozeman. A brewer from Schells would ride along with the local sales rep about once a year. He told me they were doing production for Big Sky (while the brewery was under construction and then while they worked out the bugs in scaling production) as well as Pete's Wicked Ale and a couple of others.
