How much snow is in the woods near Ely? Could a guy hike the portage in to Wood Lake, or would he need snowshoes?

How about the Gunflint area? Are folks walking out or is there too much snow?

Was just wondering that myself. I did just peek at the Ely webcams, and the one in the in-town park looks like there really isn't very much at the moment. Last night's weather made it sound like we could get a big of snow across MN just after Christmas though.

I am not sure how much snow they are getting right now but I was in that area a week ago and there was barely any snow in the woods. So little that we changed our winter camping trip to a non portaging trip.
