Planning a trip for July for my 14 year old daughter and myself entering at Lake One and heading to Alice lake. I've been to Insula before and day tripped to Alice and really liked the area and didnt think the portages were anything that my daughter couldnt handle. My question is would be crazy to think I could get a camp site on Alice in mid July? The beach sites seem to be a popular destination during the summer.

We went the last week in July/First week in august and there were a several sites still open when we went through Alice on a Tuesday around 2:00 in the afternoon. It's a beautiful lake!

Just something to keep in mind, every single site on Lakes One, Two, Three and Four were taken on our way out on Thursday. We had intended on staying one more night, but our plans were foiled.

I'd say it's definitely not crazy to think you will get a good site there, but like any lake, popular or not, in the summer months it's always a crap-shoot. Don't paddle in hoping for a specific site at 7pm. You will be up there after the July 4 holiday, and there are a lot of sites on that lake. Get there early in the day, and have a back up plan. I was there a several years back in early June, and not sure but think I was the only one on the lake. You just never know.

I was there in Sept a couple of years ago and had the whole lake to myself.

I would definitely have a back up plan as you just never know. I have been there in July and all sites were taken and another time only a few. I can tell you that the last time I was there in July it was so busy I decided it would be my last time through there in mid summer. Like Boonie I recommend September for that area. I was through there in a snow storm last October and I saw no one but that I wouldn't recommend.
