So after almost 20 years I'm thinking of retiring my Sierra Design Electron 2 tent. Its still in good shape does not leak. Just a little heavy and its almost 20 years old.
I've been looking at these two tents as replacements.

Or

Does anyone have any experience with either of these two tents.
Thx.

Owned neither been inside each in 2 person persuasion. Basic 2 pole rectangular full fly 2 door/vestibule shelters each. Simple to put up, good protection, great prices. A bit heavy, the design lets some water entry going into and out of the tent reduced by careful use of the door. Big difference is the Lynx has less netting (less draft, potentially warmer), and much deeper vestibules about 1 1/2 ft. each.
Either are good shelters for their intended user range.
Mountainsmith Morrison 2, better warm weather. Alps Mountaineering Lynx 2, better shoulder season use. Otherwise very similar.
Actual difference from the Electron, very little actual weight difference, either will be taller than the Electron, either will feel less roomy in the dome due to the Electron's spreader, Electron is dryer on entry and exit again due to spreader. The Electron has more vestabule space because it asymmetric fly.

I have an Alps Mountaineering Lynx 4 with is similar to yours. For the money the tent represents a good value. The poles are aluminum and larger in diameter than my Mountain Hardware. The zippers on mine are oversized and seem to work well. It is a bit heavier but costs considerably less so that is to be expected. I also think the "J" hook clips that connect tent to frame are a bit on the cheap side, but still do their job. The dual doors and vestibules on the 4 are nice and it offered more than enough room for two with our gear.
Would I buy it again? Yes, it has served me well on my first trip to the BW and many campouts with the kids at local parks and the backyard. Not sure if this helps you much.

I have the Lynx 2 and it has served me well over 8-10 trips. It's very easy to set up and has kept me dry. The 2 vestiblues are really nice too. Recently, my canoeing buddy and I decided to tent separately. So even though it's really roomy for one, it was a bit heavy and bulky.
So I just acquired a Marmot Tungsten 2 and really like it... plus it's about 1 lb lighter than the Lynx 2 and includes the footprint. It also has 2 vestiblules, though they are asymetrical.
List price is about $200 but it was easy to find for $150 before Christmas.

Your post led me to this, Marmot Limelight 2. Right around 5lbs. Two doors. Two vestibules. Good room. Foot print included.

I saw that thanks.
I think by the responses i have refined my tent choices to either the Marmot Limelight 2 or the Marmot Tungsten 2. Both similar to my Electron 2 but slightly lighter.
Thanks everyone for the replies.

If you are interested in lightweight, compact, and inexpensive Amazon has the Safacus 2 person for $69.99 no tax and free shipping. It has 3 poles, 2 very small vestibules. 2 doors, 5000 mm silicon nylon fly, 4000 mm polyester floor, and 4.6 lbs.

Interesting, I do have a prime account and transfer all my hotel points to Amazon so in reality this tent would cost me zero. Hmmmm
Do you have any experience with this brand.
Thx

I purchased one. My opinion is that it is a tested proven design, the materials appear to be excellent, and the workmanship is fair. My only issue with the tent I received so far is the sewing is fair to poor. I have several expensive tents but I may take this one to the bwca next July. I am going to try it in the wind and rain first.

If you're not an ounce-counter, the Limelight 3 offers so much more room for an extra $50 and it is only 1.01 lbs heavier. Two people and a small child/or dog is more the true fit rather than 3 adults. I have the old-style Limelight 3 and it's my go-to tent for BWCA solos. I packed it for a trip to Alaska too. I have other tents. I choose Limelight 3 each time.

Well I ended up purchasing a Marmot limelight 2p. However....
I wanted to give my SD Electron one more trip and it went with me on our trip to Boulder Bay and Iron Lake. Sadly it told me that it was tired as it did leak a little during some rain events. Not a lot, but enough to tell me it was time.
So for my solo in August I'll be sporting a new Tent. I set it up in the backyard tonight and like it. It is roomier than my Electron. I'll test it in the backyard during some rain and TStorms to see how it holds up b4 I take it north.
Thanks for all the responses.

If you're interested, NikWax makes some good treatments for waterproofing tents. I have a 35 year old North Face tent I just can't give up on, even though I have 4 other much newer tents. Wish they still made them (Westwind).

I need to seal the seams and it should be good. I won't get rid of it, but instead use it for backyard camping.

I recently bought a new tent and looked at a lot of possible options. I was looking for a roomy 2 person tent with 2 doors and vestibules. I also didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. The tent I finally purchased was the Kelty Trail Ridge 2. An added bonus it comes with its own footprint. The aluminum poles fold up shorter than others, so packs up pretty nicely. Amazon purchase for just under $150. Set up is easy and the tent looks well made. The tent is so new I haven't camped in it yet. Excited to try it out officially ASAP. Will be using this tent first part of August in the BWCA. The Kelty Trail Ridge might be another option for you to look at and research.
