Hello

A group of 5 of us will be entering the Quetico on May 20 using the Beaverhouse entry point. We will be traveling from the west via International Falls.

We would like to spend the evening before we arrive at the entry point somewhere before the road that takes you to the entry point. I have checked with the Indiaonta Resort, which is located just across the road from the road into Beaverhouse Lake but unfortunately they are booked for the day we wish to stay there.

We do not want to drive into Atikokan unless we have to so I would like to know if there are any other resorts, etc west of Atikokan that we can stay at for one night. By the way another nice feature of Indiana was that they would have picked up our permits in Atikokan.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

It’s 25 minutes to Atikokan from the Flanders turnoff to Beaverhouse. Can you get to Atikokan by 3:30pm? If so, you can pick up your permit before the ranger station closes, stay overnight there, then head out to the BH landing at 5:00 or 5:30am... whatever time you can get going in the morning. Then you don’t have to paddle across Beaverhouse to the ranger station there. You can turn the corner and head directly to the portage into Quetico Lake or head directly into Cirrus. Probably saves you an hour, and probably more given the fact that the ranger station doesn’t open until 8:00am.

We stay at the White Otter motel, but there are a couple others just as good.

If you stay at an outfitters they can pick up your permit the day before.
