Any administrators out there- I just posted this to a thread, but thought I'd post this under a separate topic to get your attention.

"Maybe the administrators can add a polling function that sits at the top of the thread. Many other forums have them, especially ones that follow sports and they are polling which team people think will win. Could be really usefully for a number of questions, and fun to see averages. Not sure what information you may be trying to glean from this, other than curiosity, but would be interested if 50/50 filtered, or 90/10 or anything in between."

The other forums I've been on can list many different polls (more than just a yes or no, but a list of items) it shows total votes and percentages for each answer.

Anyone else see value in a function like this?

I don't care either way but I'm on other message boards that have this function.

Surveys/polling like this tend to be non-scientific and generally useless except for the referenced curiosity factor. I vote no.

I agree that polling data is unreliable but the curious side of me is still interested in what others may be thinking. I would vote yes.

Yeah, well, seems that poll-rigging has been in the news.... :)

I went out for poll vaulting once. :)
I too am not in the gotta have side. But also would be ok... just not real reliable info in my opinion. Usually polls try to get your opinion of something but don’t exactly give you the choice that is your actual opinion!

Such polls are the same as reading through the comments and counting up the responses such as which people filter or don’t filter. They just let you quickly see a summary. The other forums I’ve seen this on allow you to answer the poll and leave a reply. So you can still discuss reasons. It’s just an added feature.

Gee mr Grand Rapids... I’d rather be able to see email icons when using my phone so I could invite you to our steak feed tomorrow in Goodland... 2-7 or until we sell out of 400 steaks.

Thought I heard this on the radio. Would swing by, but working Saturdays until the tax deadline. I have a cousin who lives halfway down Alrich rd

And in response to the polling threads--- of course its 100% opinion. But aren't we coming to this site to see others opinions? Even the best polling people in the country all got it wrong a couple years ago. People with questions come here to have the opinions of like minds/ interests tip the scale one direction or the other. If I wanted to decide on something and really couldn't (most likely a frivolous question- like what color tarp- btw green or white?) I'd be fine leaving it up the fate of the BWCA.com responders. Or deciding between two routes. Or deciding between two canoes? Or how I like my coffee... everyone knows how those coffee rollcall threads pop up every once in awhile. Polling might just be fun. Could I post the same question in the middle of summer and middle of winter and get completely opposite results? of course. You may not even get a good representation of those on the board. But none of that matters- it's an opinion forum. I'm with NCTRY on the leave no trace... I hopefully will never leave my tarp.

I participate in a few sites that are on the "political" spectrum that use a weighted polling mechanism based on a few factors. They are pretty good, and rarely, do we have the types of "fights" that exist on other sites.

If the polling is weighted somehow, I'd be for them, otherwise the polling would be useless as you state.

I added the ability to see the email icon on phones a while back. :)

There is a polling option but not available for anyone but mods.
