Just read a report from CES where Impossible Foods is promoting their Impossible Burger . Only in restaurants at the moment, but claimed (on their site) to be in grocery stores in 2019. I just asked if it's shelf stable or requires refrigeration. Could be fantastic or it could be dismal. There's a restaurant serving impossible burgers less than a mile from me so will have to try it.

Plant based, interesting. I love a good veggie burger, but this is not trying to be a veggie burger. It's trying to be a meat style replacement that acts & tastes like burger. I looked up one of the ingredients/additives because I had never heard of it..Konjac.

Konjac side effects:
bloating.
diarrhea or loose stools.
abdominal pain.
gas.
nausea.

Ooh....go easy on it. Bill, let us know how it is...during & after. ;)

I emailed them the refrigeration question this morning and already replied. About like meat - refrigerate and use within 3 days after defrosting. Oh well.

The same side effects as lactose for some people :)

Do you still plan to go try it? I'd be interested; there are a couple places here that are listed, so maybe I'll give it a try sometime.

Since it needs refrigeration, I may not run out tonight, but will definitely try it when I get a chance.

Can it be dehydrated?

If I try it at one of the restaurants that serves it I'll let you know.

Like the old lady said on the commercial years ago, " Where's the beef!" Nothing tastes better than beef you raise and feed out yourself. I feel sorry for people that have never eaten it.

Everyone I know that's eaten the impossible burger described it to me with wide-eyed amazement. Apparently, it really tastes like meat.

Incidentally, the company learned that the heme in hemoglobin is what gives it that meaty taste, so they just added hemoglobin that was made by fermentation (e.g. an engineered yeast). Hemoglobin is also full of iron, which is a plus, and is what makes blood - and the impossible burger- that deep rich red.

I'm pretty excited about it as I love beef and would be happy if there were a compelling substitute (there is no real substitute :)). Factory farming of beef, in particular, is a significant environmental problem. 900 pounds of grain used to make a pound of beef (or something surprising like that). Interesting perspective on beef farming/consumption here.

I'm sure the engineered yeast thing will bother people, but I don't care. Most people would be surprised to learn how engineered there food is.

Impossible slider exclusively at White Castle "

Yeah, my son who is vegetarian mentioned that last night. White Castle was apparently one of the first big customers.

They apparently are working on other meats. I think fish was mentioned.

Freaking me out! I had no idea when I referenced them before. Do I risk trying one? Just one.

I was told they have a separate grill for these, so completely meat free.

Kind of made me think of the question If I had to give up meat or sex, which would I choose. I suppose some might really choose to keep consuming meat.

It's coming to Burger King "Whopper". Maybe I'll try one when it gets here.

I've had one. No problem with bloating. But I hated it and couldn't even finish it. That's because as an vegetarian for being kind to animals reasons, I don't want to eat meat. It is way too reminiscent of meat. Mind you, I haven't had a beef burger since 1992 but everyone seems to think it is quite meat like. I'm happy for that because it is much more environmentally friendly than raising beef. But I hate that it is replacing real veggie burgers at lots of restaurants.

Please, explain to me how it is not a veggie burger?
