This may be a stupid question but are there any special fishing regulations for the BWCA? Are any of the lakes designated trout lakes?

Minnesota regs apply to both situations.

Basswood has northern regs. Not sure about the trout end of it. If I had to guess, I would say no designated trout lakes. That would be a pain in the paddle to haul them in there.

I believe it's been a couple of years but from the alpine river to the seagull river 3 walleyes in possession , some lakes do have special regs(not many) outside of the BW lines you'll probably find more regs/slots like the vegetable lakes.

The Minnesota fishing regulations handbook has all your answers. And there are about two dozen Designated Trout Lakes in the BWCAW. Line up the X's.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any lakes with stream trout and fully in the BWCA that are not designated trout lakes but I'm sure someone will correct me.

All waters in the BWCA are regulated by the Minnesota DNR. You can look up in the little regulation book they give you to see if there is any specific ruling for that lake. As far as designated Trout lakes, most of the ones I’ve been to have a sign as you enter that lake on the portage trail saying this lake is a designated trout lake. If you are still in question call the MN DNR.
