wow, i've found what i think is ALL of my camera parts, except for one charger for nikon coolpix. not sure how i acquired all this or if i even know how to use it or what it's used for! could be old age sneeking in....

the Canon camera has a full charge on the battery but when i turn it on the shutter won't open. i can hear the mechanism wanting to open but it just won't. any ideas?

here is the pile o'parts

I suggest 2 simple things. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage on the battery. The charger may think it is charged, but maybe it is not if it is an old battery. Then look at the contacts i the battery compartment for corrosion or oxidation. Clean the contacts by rubbing them with with Q-tips and alcohol.

Had a Canon camera years ago. Worked great for many years, took lots of nice pictures. Then one day the same thing happened to me, it had power but the shutter wouldn't open. Bought a new camera.

I also had a Canon camera a few years back... model S95, I think. It did a similar thing, when it tried to turn on, the lens would not open and it also gave an error message. When I did some research, it seemed this was a fairly common problem... if the smallest piece of grit gets into the lens mechanism, it can jam things up.
I sent it to Canon for an estimate, it came back at around $200... which was about the value of the camera. I sold it 'as is' on Ebay for $20.

Assuming it's a PowerShot A2200, and 8 years since market release, it is only worth $50 in useable condition. It would cost $25 or more just to have a shop evaluate and estimate cost of repair. As suggested you might try a new battery but even that cost would dent a replacement cost. I look for a replacement. More capable updated versions can be found at bargain prices if you do not mind used or reconditioned. I have gotten to where I buy used, reconditioned, and out of production cameras and equipment exclusively. Just like computer equipment, latest is much more expensive than slightly older versions.

Happy with the format of your broken camera? A Powershot A2200 compact long zoom? Interested in specific improvements? What kind of budget, amount willing spend?
These answers can go a long way toward purchasing help. Extra eyes on the market.

Try taking it apart and putting it back together. :-)
