Hey folks,

I know a lot of you are die-hard Boundary Waters Journal folks - thinking about asking for a subscription for my birthday ;) I wondered if any of you know off-hand if any back issues focus on the dream-route/father-son trip I'm running this summer: EP #16 Moose River North - Agnes, LLC, Iron, Crooked, LBF, Horse, Mudro exit. Of course, if any issues have great fishing advice in them, I'd always be up for that (I do have the Zulu Magic article from 2008).

Looks like some back issues are available through their website, as well as some digital copies you can buy. If anyone has something that is relevant and is willing to part with it, I'm happy to buy. Thanks for any help! - Scott

I would try to find issues with campsite recommendations for the lakes you will be going through. Try the search function for their back issues if they have that available.

Thanks - I checked - they have a google doc with the campsite recommendations now...Summer 2012 has Crooked in campsite recommendations...looks like I can order that issue. Any other memorable issues that stand out to folks?

Hey, that's the route I'm trying to get my friends to do this year! No BWJ recommendations unfortunately, but maybe I'll see you up there. Planning for last week of May or first week of June.

Hey Flynn,

We're hoping to enter on June 11, spend 9-10 days working our way across and down. My brother and I are taking our sons, can't wait. I'd love to connect sometime, maybe we could share some of the planning details we've both done. Would love to get some fishing/general intel from you when you get back if you are willing to share! My email address is stimm@iastate.edu if you are interested. - Scott

If I had a son I would love to take him on such an epic trip. I am 90% sure we're doing a Crooked trip around the aforementioned time frame, but I don't know if it'll be a loop from Mudro or a point-to-point from Moose River to Mudro. Regardless, I think my experience should be applicable and hey, even useful, as you'll be entering shortly after I exit. I'll definitely reach out!

Summer 2018 has 2 articles. One covering Crooked Lake campsites and the other a great trip report which stretches from Curtain Falls, across Crooked down the Basswood River and out Saganaga

Bushman for the win! Cannot find Summer 2018 on their online store...anyone out there have one they are willing to part with, lend, or something of the like?

I'm at the point where I don't WANT to know everything about a route. It takes some of the adventure out of it. I still enjoy just a map and compass and not a gps. Call me weird.

I think getting the issue with the campsite recommendations would be plenty info for your trip. This is a very well established route and you are in no danger of not finding your portage.

Did that route with buddies two years ago. 3 island was very cool. We spent two nights there and just fished in this area for a whole day. Loved it and slayed the fish. Wish we would have spent more time on the lake on the border, crooked I believe. Incredible up there and very quiet and peaceful. Awesome route!!

Also planning on doing a very similar route this coming spring with 3 friends. It'll be my first time in the BW and I was wondering how many days you guys would recommend for completing this loop. We're planning on setting aside 3ish days for fishing. All young and in good shape but limited paddling experience.

Our group was six 27 year olds two years ago.. we did it in 6 days, 5 nights. Only fished at camp in afternoon/evening except for the day following a campsite that we spent two nights at. Was our first trip, none of us had real padddling experience.
