Thought I would post an oatmeal recipe that I've recently discovered at home that can be used while tripping as well.
Start with dehydrated red raspberries, strawberries and apples added to the water, then add the oats after it boils. When the water has soaked in, add quartered walnut halves, raisins and a bit of cinnamon mixed with sugar, topping it off with pure Maple syrup till you get the right sweetness.
I think it's the combination of the strawberries, raspberries and maple syrup, walnuts that makes it taste so good. My wife and I have been saying to each other in the morning. What do want for breakfast, some of the best oatmeal ever?

Wingnut,
Sounds like a great recipe for oatmeal.
When in Quetico ... for breakfast ... I usually mix 1 pack Apple & Cinnamon Oatmeal and 1 pack of Regular Oatmeal and mix in some Ocean Spray Craisins (dried cranberries) or some dried blueberries or strawberries. Dried fruit and oatmeal go together well.

That sounds delicious, easy to customize & easy to make at camp. Good idea putting the fruit right in the boiling water first. I'd try apple & blueberries & pecans or sliced almonds. I make a baked oatmeal that has similar fruits & nuts in it at home, so good. Nothing better with this deep freeze going on.

Finally put pen to paper on my instant oatmeal mix for this year so figured I'd share. It's very similar to this recipe but with flax seed and milk powder added to beef it up a bit. I mix up what we use for dried fruit to add some variety and top with honey or maple syrup - whichever we have left. We just add boiling water, put lids on the bowls, and wait 5-10 minutes - easy and works great.

I thought I was doing pretty well with the instant oatmeal and freeze dried berries. Maybe walnuts for texture. Steel cut oats are obviously better but we are not morning people so I go with easier breakfasts and more complicated dinners.

I've been experimenting with my Svea 123, trying to get a figure on fuel usage requirements to be able to plan a solo. This morning, I timed it from priming the stove to finished with cooking the oatmeal at eight minutes total. I had six minutes of flame time including the pre-heat cycle.
Using 1/3 to 1/2 cup water and similar amounts of quick oats, I'll add a sliver of butter and a spork full of honey, but I love to add raisins or a fresh peeled and diced apple.
Steel cut oats adds a lot of fuel burn time.
I'm figuring one stove filled, along with an 11 oz. fuel bottle, should be enough
fuel for ten, maybe fourteen, days. If you used something like a tea pot and conserved hot water, dumping that into a bag or another cook pot might work for two people. Sorry to run down another rabbit hole.
