The USFS and MN DNR list this as access as "carry-in," but I have read that this access is suitable to back in a small boat (14ft) on a trailer. Can anyone here confirm this and let me know to the location of the access?

Many thanks!

In the winter they don't plow all the way to the access. There is a small access on the east end that you could get a boat in. Hope this helps!

I should clarify that I'm in summer planning mode. So I'm assuming this is somewhere off Mayhew Lake Road on the East end? Thank you!

You turn onto Mayhew road and you'll see it on your left. I've backed 14 footers into tougher spots, but not many. It's rocky. I drove down there once and if I'm remembering right I think you could do it. With a couple guys you could for sure horse it in.

Thanks Lundojam. My boat is super light, so worst case I can disconnect from the hitch, grab the tongue and just walk it down.

Plans coming together for another little gunflint trip, bwca-adjacent. permits schmermits.

It’s doable, but it’s tough. My truck had just enough clearance to make the steep dip. The hardest part is the lack of space, the launch is literally just a widening of the road. Very nice little lake though. Saw some moose, but only caught 1 pike.

That's super helpful. I would be able to get my 14 footer in there, but I would probably not try it with the resort's 16 footer.

Thanks folks.

The parking area is small and if more than like two vechiles you may have to launch your boat than park closer to the road,no big deal.
Use to be some nice gentlemen living in the cabins down the road. Hope they are still around. Many a friendly chats.

That's totally it on the link. Not as bad as I remember actually. Go for it.

yes, totally do NOT block access through on the road. the guy that lives further in on the road sometimes parks out by the road, i guess he gets tired of not being able to get out. he's very nice, as Pinetree stated. if you get bored fishing or whatever you're doing on mayhew, take a hike further down the road and then on to the portage that leads to Topper. pretty little lake and nice woods and rocks and boulders and stuff to look at along the way.

Thanks for the info everybody. I will NOT block the road. I WILL say hello to the gentleman in the cabin if opportunity arises.
