I would like to try fishing in the Quetico in the Winter again. Has anyone tried Gulp Smelt? When you were able to use AND get frozen ciscoes I had excellent luck in the Winter time. Of course those days are gone. Or any suggestions for catching trout in the Winter in the Quetico.

While smelt are delicious, I prefer gulping whitefish.

I've used them in the summer with good luck. Not exactly what you're looking for, but it's all I got. :)

I'm wondering what people do since no live or dead bait can be used. Gulp Smelt is my first thought. I thought maybe someone had a different (better) suggestion. I also was wondering about ice fishing. I'm not sure how many people go to the Q in the Winter. In my one trip a year, I have never come across anyone.
