My streak of 18 years was broken last year. Excited to get back in June. I just want to verify a few rules. Our permit is for BWCA but we will be on a border lake. My understanding is we no longer need a day pass to be in Quetico as long as we do not camp. Still need a Canadian fishing license, game card and abide fishing regulations. Is a valid State ID enough or do you need a passport to be in Canada? And finally, we are not going to use an outfitter. Can I get a permit sent to me instead of having to pick up at an outfitter?

Thanks!

If you are going to cross the border other than just in travel with no stopping nor fishing, youll need an RABC pass to cross into Canada, a Querico day permit, and the card and liscense if fishing, the Q day permit is the vehicle permit, same for a car or a canoe. I dont think that has changed.

Other than EP71, I don't think the US will mail you a permit. Forest Service or a cooperator - an outfitter mostly. Iirc Duluth Pack Store issues permits.

Did i catch it all?

You can either pick up your permit at an outfitter or the forest service office, it must be picked up in person by the group leader on the day of entry.

Or the day before date of entry.

You don't need to stop at a Q ranger station if you're just crossing the border to fish and sightsee, provided you have an RABC already, right? I haven't seen anyone mention that for fishing day trips, or crossing the border on a border lake like Crooked to fish other bays.
