03/04/2019 08:39AM   (Thread Older Than 3 Years)
Just wanted to drop a line to say Happy Permit Day! I hope everyone lands what they're looking for and most importantly, we avoid a repeat of January's chaotic, short-lived prequel.

I'm looking forward to getting this summer's trips changed from "Tentative" to "Confirmed" in my calendar. Please feel free to respond with your permit plans (EP, dates, where you're headed) if you feel like sharing.

Good Luck!

Tony

Logging into the rec.gov now. Hoping to get some motor permits for Basswood; and possibly a paddle one to enter in at Mudro.

Got ours right away, no big rush but we wanted to cross it off the list. Ep47 may 27

Got ours right away as well, taking the family to South Kawishiwi River (EP32) the week of June 24th.

Can't wait, happy planning everyone! Now we can start talking ice off dates and when may flies and black flies will hatch.

Phew! That was quick and smooth, just like it should have been. Got my June 1 Moose River permit for my group but holycow, Mudro got SMOKED. The May/June weekends are gone or almost gone already. Heck a lot of permits are going faster than I thought they would. Did everyone else get what they wanted?

Done. Ep16 headed to Iron in June.

I have a solo planned for August as well but will wait to reserve that permit.

No problems...Clearwater 7/7

03/04/2019 09:17AM
I locked in Moose Lake for June and Lake One (EP 30F) for a solo trip in July. Smooth as can be. Nice to see things functioning properly. I saw a few EP's getting hit hard on the weekends, but I guess that's no different than most years.

I got a Mudro permit for the end of August and my solo through Stuart for June. Today went as smooth for me as the first permit day... hopefully I get to keep them this time. Tony, I've read your trip reports and I might shoot you an email about the Stuart/Iron/Crooked area. I also might do a little side trip that I know you have interest in.

Easily Got a Moose Lake Overnight Motor permit for mid August but when I went back to get another in May there was none left for the whole season.

It worked great for me booking from Denver CO.

That's the way it should work. Done with confirmation in my email by 9:06.

They seem to have it figured out. Good stuff.

Worked fine for me, no hiccups.

We're booked for my daughters first overnight into the BWCA. A short trip entering at Lizz lake on 7/11. No real agenda after that we'll just see how it goes. Kept to familiar lakes so hopefully can make it a nice easy trip.

Does this side trip start with a "B" and end with "ATISTA"?

I was skeptical; but will give credit; very quick and easy. Picked up a hand full of day use motors and an overnight paddle for Mudro...Crooked Lake or bust.

It will be interesting at the end of the day how it worked out for everybody? Wonder if the change in system will distribute available permits more or like a few get all the permits? I don't know?

Bingo!"

This is also on my agenda for this year. I'll let you know how it goes. I too am headed that way in early June. The attempt day, as it stands now, will be sometime during the second week of June.

I'm entering on the 11th. Haven't decided which day to make the attempt. Maybe our paths will cross!

Awesome! I’m anxious to here how it goes and what Batista and the campsite there is like. I’ve aways thought it could be a nice fishing lake. The Dahlgren River is awesome! Don’t hesitate to email me with any questions you have, I will hopefully have some answers for you.

Of our group 3 people tried to get overnight permits going in on Moose staying on Basswood all motors. We got one permit for going in on May 23rd. All the permits we tried for were from opener to the first week of June. We had hoped for 4 permits for 2 groups at different dates. At least we got one permit..... I guess.

Got one for LIS North on June 15th - 16th were all taken!
Also lucked out and got one of the overnight hiking (out of 999) for Eagle Mountain! I'll have to get in early, as there are only two campsites on that trail. It will be safer to not have a canoe on May 10th.

Got in clean and booked 3 permits within 5 mins.

EP 23 - Mudro in Late June
EP 44 - Ram in mid July (with my 3 and 5 yr olds)
EP 50 - Cross Bay Lake in Late August

Exactly the pick-me-up I needed after the February we've had!

EP 51 - Missing Link in mid-August
Finally get to do a week long trip with the family instead of 3 day mad dashes of the last few years. Super excited to see the Frost River area.

Gotter-done!

I had very low expectations after January.

I was pleasantly surprised though at how easy it was!

Pinetree: " Permit process "

“By noon on Monday, day-use and overnight permits for trips by motorboat were extremely scarce, she said.” (Danielle ott of packsack)

“By noon Monday, owner Ginny Nelson let her customers know that day-use motor permits and overnight motor permits were "pretty much taken for the summer."

I don’t get these comments. There are still literally hundreds (if not thousands? I ain’t counting...) of DM permits for bearskin, Clearwater, sag, seagull, fall, trout. LOTS of OM available as well?

03/04/2019 08:30PM
Went just fine for me this morning. I have a couple options for my June trip through Moose, got another entry for Baker, one for Lake 1 entry, another for Lizz/Swamp, and mid-August on Missing Link. A couple of these are bound to fall through, but this is going to be my first multi-trip year with any luck!

I think they are talking only about Moose lake.

I guess maybe? Not how I read it. Moose is only mentioned in the paragraph about the star trib reporters.

If that was the case then it's an awfully poor article -- report on the whole system, as the headline suggests, not just one EP.

03/04/2019 11:04PM
Stayed awake this morning and picked up a Moose River North at 10am EST and went to bed (night shifter).
When I awoke around 4pm and checked again all of the permits for the day I wanted were gone. That was for July 28th

Got my EP 16 booked for June 17 yesterday first thing, for poops and giggles checked again...noticed this morning that they were all gone for that day. Wow, glad I jumped on it! Running the border across Crooked to LBF and out Mudro. Should be a blast!

03/05/2019 12:36PM
The process went smoothly on the redo. I am glad they took the time to test the system and get it right this time.

03/05/2019 12:36PM
I got Isabella Lake permit for June 24 and plan to exit at South Kawishiwi River. Maybe we will see you during the week.
