I figured as long as the new site had the nice easy table I'd pick a random week in June and see what % of each entry was already gone the first day. (as long as they let us keep these permits this time)

A couple minutes in Excel and here's the result, hopefully you can read the text from the screenshot in the picture. I sorted by % reserved and any EP that's not in the screenshot has had 0 permits reserved for that week so far. (lower on list)

If this doesn't work I'll see if I can get it in the text of a future post...

So far the highest on the list are Little Gabbro (80%), Mudro (78%), Moose (65%), and Lake One (64%)....no big surprises there I guess.

Any chance you could do this exercise using the dates between 5-21 and 5-30?

If I could I would do it myself but unfortunately I am not that savvy.

Thanks!

Sure! But it'll be tonight and permits sold over the first 2 days since that's when I'll pull the data.

Here's that stretch of May.

Little Gabbro again #1 and this time at 95% reserved after a little more than 24 hours since they were opened. The rest of the list is quite different in rankings vs the one from June above. Moose, Lake One, etc are a bit lower and Moose R. South, Clearwater, Pine, etc are higher by quite a bit.

As a total, there are 688 permits reserved for this 10 day span as of the date/time of this post.

Way too much time on your hands there...

Neat information though.

I remember someone last year posted about permit usage and I thought it was interesting. The whole table is copy/paste from the website so it's really only about 5 min of work doing the math in green on the right. Fill down is your friend...

Hey! I resemble that comment!

I was about to do the same collection when I saw your data. Thanks. I still plan to try to do a May-Sep calendar for each EP again with conditional formatting highlighting the more popular dates. Much easier data collection with this format.

Data from 24 hrs in is well suited to convincing those in search of a specific EP on a specific day that they had better get cracking... for particular entry points. e.g. Our men's group has a set day every year. I got on at 9:00 and got our Little Gabbro permit right away, then noticed that the other one that day was gone less than 30 min later.

I was thrilled with the grid showing multiple EPs; probably the new system's major improvement. I think that showing a full 2 weeks would be ideal. Not just for copy-pasting, but for ease of use in deciding whether to change your date or change your entry.

Also, I've always thought that it would be interesting to collect data for permits remaining each month May-September, and collect it on the first day of each month... That would eliminate the skewed results that come from assuming that the very few permits taken in September could be entirely attributed to "the normal seasonal fall-off," forgetting to take into account that it's just that much farther into the future.

Yep, it was you! Thanks for the inspiration. What's so great about Little Gabbro? I was a little surprised to see how many had no reservations yet, at least for those two 10 day stretches

Gabbro and Bald Eagle are consistently good walleye producers, the entry is semi-long but easy, there are a number of nice sites available, and only 2 permits are available per day. It's not the EP with the highest total number of groups entering there each year, but usually the one with the highest number of daily quotas filled. The lakes are magnets for base campers, but also offer some nice loops through a bit more challenging terrain. This will be my 7th time on Gabbro in 43 BWCAW trips, tied with the most often on any lake in all of my travels, and it never gets old.
