Either the author doesn't really know the subject very well, or they were restricted only to canoes that they could profit off of affiliate links for, or both (my bet). Maybe if it was "Best Rec Canoes on a Budget," but nope--this is a list of The Best recreational canoes apparently. Hey, whatever someone enjoys to paddle is great, so I'd never judge anyone by their canoe, but I am kind of judging this author for their list.

So the Old Town 119 is a race boat that's fast because of it's aerodynamic shape? Hmmm.
I remember doing Internet research for a canoe cart and it seemed darn near impossible to even find useful hints. Tons of cheap carts with 5 star ratings and some even had reviews that described how they broke during first use.

I learned to never take advice from paid reviewers. Talk to owners!
I bought a crappy 2018 Honda CRV because all the big review companies called it a 'best buy'. Only after I bought it did I find that the new CR-V's have an engineering defect. All of the owner forums talk about it but the paid reviewers don't mention a peep.
Anyway, some poor fellow will stumble on the canoe reviews in the link and go out and buy a crappy canoe.

If you don't have anything good to say; don't say anything at all..............
Sorry, this dude don't abide by that quotations.
Call me a canoe snob; I don't care.
That "best" list stinks to high heaven.

Buy a canoe from Amazon: Not gonna happen!
I wouldn't mind having one of those "beaters"; if someone gave me one of them for free.
I'd give it to my wife; she could make a neat flower bed out of it.
Would make a good litter box for a family with multiple cats.
Or ready made sand box for family with a couple of toddlers.
"Lady, don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out of here with that "steaming load of BS".

Yep, all about that affiliate networking.
A big rule for me is to NEVER buy product based on a review that is obvious the person doesn't even own or use the product.

Never buy a canoe from a backpacker... and backpackers say never buy a pack from a canoe tripper. Haha!

Reviews are often very subjective. Back in my previous life, Consumer Reports was about the only venue with reviews. Any time they reviewed items within my realm of expertise, I'd laugh and throw the magazine away.
I set a goal of losing 10 lbs. this year. I only have 15 left to lose.

My pet peeve is people that leave a 5 star rating and admit that they haven't even had a chance to take it out of the box yet, or to use it. In one respect at least they are being honest but on the other hand it skews the ratings and inflates the number of valid ratings.
On a similar subject are the answers to questions posted. You will see a question like "How much does it weigh?" with multiple answers like "I don't know", "I don't know because I returned it", "I haven't weighed it", or "I'd guess between 25 and 75 lbs." I think some of these are valid answers because the person didn't realize that there response was going to be posted. I get emails all the time asking me questions about things that I purchased, usually from Home Depot. If I don't have the answer I have been tempted to leave an answer like in my examples above but then I realize it's going to be posted for the entire world to see so I just delete it.

On another note, why did you waste all of our time by linking this garbage?"
well, he could have started a debate whether to knock over rock cairns or if it;'s OK to fish in front of somebody's campsite
let science, not politics decide, ... but whose science?

Debate???? Everyone knows rock cairns don’t belong in the BWCA :)

Many items I owned and found no fault with (mainly power tools) were rated extremely low by consumer reports for some really odd (to me) reasons.
