Not sure about the rest of you but i have a serious problem with buying hammock accessories. On my solo last summer i moved camp every day, and setting up and breaking down my ridgerunner and quilts while i had a spindrift on as well wasnt very quick. I could just take it all bundle it and stuff it in a contractor bag in my pack, but for some reason i thought a catch-all from simply light designs would be easier. Its similar to the one marty used to make at wilderness logics, that was called the lazy slug, anyone using one of these, are they worth it?

I use one. I take my top quilt out and put it in a separate compression bag although the slug can swallow the whole thing. I have put the full slug in the bottom of my pack and used the rest of my gear to compress it. I prefer to put the full slug in a water proof compression bag. Using the slug allows me to keep my under quilt and protector installed on the hammock making a faster and more consistent setup.
Edit
I have a Black Bird not a RR

I traded from BB to RR last year and am still making adjustments, probably always will.
I use a CCS tarp that goes into Dan's sack and then into a medium sized E-vent. The top quilt, sleeping clothing and such go into a second medium E-vent. The underquilt and hammock go into a third E-vent without removing the UQ. Stakes, poles and lines go into a separate bag. I have not timed it, but 15 minutes seems about right.
I'm not familiar with the catch all bag, any links or photos?

Here is what i ordered, i added the mesh strip down the length of the catch-all to help get air out as compressed, and selected winter which is wider.

Like a snakeskin but for hammock and quilts all in one.

Catch-All

Not my photos, but from others that have this as well over at hammockforums.

Campnfish, thanks for the link. Just completed my order. Price seems pretty reasonable.
I like the idea of a snake skin for the hammock.

Mine arrived in the mail today, maybe a little to big for my setup, i could easily go from a 10' to the 9' version. And maybe even have not chosen the winter version. I had a 20* top quilt and 20* underquilt on, i did not have my spindrift on, but i don't think it would have taken up much more, and i had alot of room to spare. It compresses down very nicely in my pack with the vent, and although its too big for all my gear the material itself that is left over will pack down to nothing.

about how long does it take you to breakdown/packup with/without the Catch All?

I bought SLD catchalls over the winter for both my BB XLC and RR set ups as well as SLD single snake skins for the tarps. A couple months later SLD added a mesh strip down the length of the catch alls to help with trapped air bubbles.

I haven’t had a chance to set up the hammocks and test it in the yard yet. The feedback and other’s experiences sounds promising. I was concerned about the bulk of the “slug” but it sounds like they compress really well.

Without, its a pain for me if i have my top cover (spindrift) on in early spring or late summer. I have to try to clip my underquilt on which is a bit of a pain while working it under the hammock and spindrift. Its not gonna take me 30 mins but its probably at least 10-15 mins to setup. Take down more as i would pack each quilt and the hammock itself in a stuff sack individually then in my pack/liner.

If i were to guess, With the catch-all, nothing would need to be packed individually, so maybe 30 seconds to take down, 30 seconds to stuff in my pack/liner.

Putting it up would be the same as take down.

are you using the spindrift in place of a tarp?

No, it's not entirely waterproof, water resistant only, it helps raise the temp a few degrees and cuts down on cold winds, not really needed in the summer.

OK last question, I swear ......

do you use a different 'tube' for your tarp, or does it all go into the catchall?

Ask away, i dont mind at all.

I have mesh tube, aka snakeskin for my tarp, typically you would want to pack this separate from your hammock as it could be wet.

Fast delivery. I ordered a catch all on the 8th, delivered today. Spring yard and garden chores are crimping my style, need to get out and play with the new gear.

Took a break from the yard work and dug out my hammocks. I put the neoair trekker in the sleeve of my ridgerunner and really enjoyed the added firmness. The catch all fits nicely over the entire system and does make take down a lot easier and faster. Thanks for the tip campnfish.

do you remove the pad before deploying the catchall, or can it remain inside the sleeve when you are packing everything up?

I can leave the pad, but obviously will have to be sure it is fully deflated. I was able to get the hammock with pad into the catchall even without full deflation, but would want to get the rest of the air out to pack for tripping. I do not think that will be that hard to accomplish.
