I know some guys who put in at Entry 16 many years ago en route to Iron Lake they paddled through a lake with many lake trout. Later they found out that Lake Trout were about the only thing in the lake. Does anyone have any idea what lake they may have been on?

Oyster and LLC have Lakers, but as far as I know, those are the only two that are on the way to Iron through EP 16 that have them. Of course, all other species are in those lakes too. I know Fat is a “heritage” Lake Trout Lake, and I think Trillium and Takucmich have Lakers, but those are all about 10 miles west of the EP 16 rivers. If you were heading in at EP 14 and following the border route towards Iron, then the above mentioned lakes would be on your way. I know Stuart and the lakes along the EP 19 route don’t have Lakers, so it couldn’t be one of those. I’m baffled.

I agree with Tony. If you are looking for LT then go to Little Indian Sioux EP14 and head up to Fat or Gun Lakes.

There is an old unmaintained portage to Fat Lake out of Slim Lake which will save you about 3 hours of paddling.

Search the board for more information on the Slim to Fat portage. You will find lots of information on this portage.

I think Trillium has Brook trout or Rainbows. Check out the MN Lake Finder site for more information on these lakes.

Oyster is the only close trout lake heading up through Moose River N to Iron, but Oyster holds plenty of smb and northerns, not just trout.

I wonder if the guys forgot the correct entry point. Not much for lakers out of Ep 16 heading towards Iron.

You mean Oyster does have lake trout & bass, right? Iron has lots of walleye. The Boulder River has nice crappie and LLC has spots for just about all of those. (depending on where you go)

Headed that way end of July. Looking for a Lake Trout on LLC.
Hoping to basecamp around Tiger Bay (ish).

Any direct spots to look for lakers around that area of LLC?

North of Lady Boot Bay, west side.
MN Lakefinder has a poor copy of the depths in the area but you can see how it can hold trout...
