This is the video that helped me fillet pike better. The Y-bone prop gives you a great idea exactly how the Y-bone lays in the meat. After a couple times, you'll become a master at it. ;)

boneless pike video

I love his last comment. ;)

Agree that the oversized bone prop helps visualize it. There are many videos on the subject, all a little different, but the best teacher is practice practice practice.

Visual is very helpful. My favorite has always been this guy.

He also has a great video for walleye.

Sure makes it look easy!

Nice video. The only pike I catch are up there. We eat pike at least one night a trip. Usually a couple 2 footers. It was about the third time before I learned a little on this forum and scanned some videos. It helped. I had either made a mess of it or felt like I was throwing too much carcass awaay without maybe choking somebody. All this said; like sweady said,"Practice,practice,...."

That's the way you do it. He did a great job illustrating the how's and why's.

Once you Y-bone a bunch of northerns it becomes easy. I do it now with a Rapala lithium electric knife. Great feel with them. But I have messed up few learning:)

I learned a five fillet method and like it best. But like everything else the best way to do it is the way that works best for you.

Yep. I have tried the 5 fillet method, but the video shock has is how I like to do it. That's how my Dad taught me. Both methods work to keep those pesky Y-bones out of your fillet.

I would rather eat northerns than walleyes.
