So what do you feed the birds that visit your yard.

Do you feed differently for the different seasons.

Mainly black oil sunflower seed for chickadees, nuthatches, cardinals. I buy the cracked corn and millet mix for Juncos, spread on ground, suet year round. I buy a bag of premium seed , sunflower, peanuts, safflower, dried raisins. I mix with the sunflower seeds to dilute.

I use no mess black oil sunflower and suet cakes that i buy at a local feed store.

Anyone make their own suet?

I mix black oil sunflower seed with a little bit of safflower seed in one feeder. I no longer have a ready source of the safflower seed, so when my supply is gone, I'll use sunflower seed alone. In another feeder I use a mix that I bought at a local hardwear store: cracked corn, milo, white millet, and sunflower. I used to put out thistle for goldfinches, but they seemed to mostly ignore it.

I put out store-bought suet cakes in the winter. Those attract woodpeckers.

I just get a nice mix of stuff I buy in a plastic (returnable) jug from the local Wild Birds Unlimited. My second feeder is a bit too close to a redbud the squirrels use as a launching pad to raid it, so for that feeder I just picked up a habanero-infused bird seed mix that's supposed to work. They've tried once so far, and did not wolf down the whole batch like they usually do if I or the dog don't scare them off, so it's encouraging. We've had, however, very few birds at the feeders the past few days. I've been negligent and they've been empty for about a month, so maybe it's just a temporary boycott to make me feel guilty.

How many feeding staitions do you use? Do you cut back feeding in spring / summer, more in fall / winter. I have 5 seed , 1 suet feeding and 1 water station that I use year round.

I have a hopper-style feeder, a tube feeder, a suet feeder for winter, and a couple of bird baths. Sometimes I will stop offering seed to get rid of House Sparrows.

I was spreading Millet, corn, sunflower seed on ground for the Juncos, it attracted the Juncos and also Crackles. I don't have any problems with sparrows, untill I get the Martin house up, then they like to move in.
