That canoe auction is fun to watch. One year I saw a lady buy about 20 canoes- kayaks.
Then at the end she did not pay for any of them. Lots of mad people. I’ve also saw some crazy high prices for the canoes at the auction. Spring expo is the best.

how does that work, then, if she doesn't pay? I've never been to any type of auction and think it would be interesting to watch.

It doesn’t work. Everyone that thought they sold their canoes had to come back and take them home. There was a lot of people storming mad at her and MWM. They changed the way they bid and sell now to prevent this from happening again.

I will be there on Saturday, presenting on Alaska. ‘Alaska DIY! Travel on the Cheap!’ at 10:30 am in Hanson Hall, room 109. I will be sharing some budget friendly tips to get the most from your Alaska Trip. I hope to see you there! If Alaska is on your bucket list, don’t miss it. I will have free Alaska information for those attending.

I will be hanging out all day, attending some other seminars and picking up a few things. If you see me, say ‘hi’. I’ll be wearing something ‘Alaska’.

I will be there for the duration. Take in a talk on Kilimanjaro, and give two Tarp Demonstrations on the grassy knoll where the canoe auction spills onto.
Saturdays tarp talk and demonstration at 3:30 and Sundays is at 11:45.
Come say Hi.

www.outdooradventureexpo.com for full details. It’s a free and fun event.

There was a thread around here somewhere about a possible meet n greet dinner on Saturday after the show. Anything happening?

I should be there Saturday afternoon and possibly Sunday as well. I don't think I'm available for a meetup afterwards, but if I remember, I will post here with some article of clothing I happen to be donning so you can say hi if you see me. I may try to attend that Alaska talk as I am going later this year and can always use more info.

Will be there Saturday. Looking forward to it!

Ugh, I hope the weatherman is wrong about Saturday. I'm seeing 3-6" of snow possible for Rochester now on Accuweather. When will it finally end??? Was planning on going to the expo.

Since I’m presenting, I am heading up early tomorrow morning. Should beat most of the storm.

I don’t think the storm will have much impact on the show. Go early if you’re concerned. It looks like most of the slop will not accumulate. Temps look to be in the 30’s. The storm should be pretty much done by 6 pm, when the day ends. Just be prepared for cold blustery winds. See ya tomorrow!

Another reason I like Canoecopia so much. Nice, warm, and dry under on one roof.

we went to the spring event a couple years ago when it monsooned all day. Made me a bit nervous with outlets everywhere laying in puddles.

Just got back from a great day at the Expo. The weather turned out to be much better than the forecast. I don't think one drop of precipitation fell on Saturday and it was 50 degrees and blue sky by 5pm! We attended several seminars and stopped by lots of booths. Some good deals on some merchandise too. They added a couple of new food trucks with some delicious food and drinks. Always a good way to start my paddling/camping season.

Wish I could have gone this year. I had planned to be there, but then our school's robotics team qualified for Championship Tournament. So I am on a bus coming back from Detroit. Hope everyone had a good time.

Comparing to Copia is like comparing apples to oranges. They are completely different shows each having their own styles. Each has aspects I like. Today’s weather turned out to be pleasant and the whole experience was an enjoyable day. I had SRO for my Alaska presentation. I attended several other excellent presentations. I will say the Expos have a far superior environment for presentations using U of M classrooms.

The guy doing the tarp demonstration on the Grassy Knoll really knew what he he was talking about.

Yup, Dan Cooke is the guy!

Yeah was a very nice day in the Twin Cities by evening. It was snowing pretty good when we left Rochester this morning. But half way up it stopped and didn't see a drop after that. Took in a couple good seminars, bought some gear, and ate some food. Itch to wet the paddle needs to be scratched.

Glad the Expo missed the weather. I think this one shifted a bit south. Long cold rain in Iowa City. Would have been the true test for Dan Cooke's tarps!

Weather was MUCH better than I expected. Only got by for a short visit, but liked the wood fire pits burning by the kayaks - nice atmosphere - and the open air beer patio with food truck. Wish I had not eaten just before going.

Went yesterday. I think our daughter talked to everyone there. she said, "I figured out Expos... the more you talk to people, the more they give you stuff!".

I thought it was MUCH smaller this year? Maybe not, but it seemed like in years past there was a lot more. The new layout w/beer garden in front was a smart idea.

Always nice to say hello to people, and renewed my SHT membership and got the new guide book.

Saw Dan Cooke, and Steve Nelson and took in one of his seminars. Charismatic as always.

Our friends who are joining us for their first time in the BWCA picked up some new packs, and learned lots.

Can't wait for the season to officially begin.

I had a great time !
Mostly meeting up with friends ! And watching the Auction.
It was hard keeping my hands in my pockets at the Auction. But I knew it would be a Long ride home, as my wife was along ! Ha ! I really have too many canoes anyway ( I'm just saying that !) It's Not true !
