As the subject line suggests, a buddy and I are going into Seagull and try for Lake Trout in mid-June this year. I've been going to the BWCA since the early 70's and have caught loads of fish, but am embarrassed to say I've never caught a Laker in canoe country. We're going specifically for Lakers this trip. Any advice for me about where to go on Seagull, how deep to fish and what to use for that time of year? Thanks so much!

Search the message board. I have addressed this very subject several times and posted photos of Lakers. We fished the first into the second week in June with a Gunflint guide. The fish were in about 40 feet of water. The guide would use his locator and put us right over the top of fish. We vertical jigged for them. He had to stay in the unrestricted part of the Lake because of his motor size. He had these areas marked with a GPS, on the top of several mounds. At times he could see the fish come off the bottom and predict the strike. I don't think that some people feel that kind of technology is fair.
