As far as I can tell from their website skyroam is a cell tower based system, not satellite.

From the Sky Roam website: "Skyroam does not work in the air on an airplane or on cruise ships out at sea. Skyroams uses cellular towers for signal, so it will not work far from land and cellular towers." So, not an option for BWCA or Quetico... Dang, the initial "WIFI anywhere" had me ready to rent one!

Yeah. I assumed since the review said it used the iridium satellites that it - well - used satellites. Seemed like a good idea.

had me going as an option...meh.. requires a tower. Unobtanium for me.

FYI, I don't see skyroam in that Wired review. Maybe they screwed up and then deleted it from their article. Still, Skyroam seems like it could be handy for international travel because it seems like it deals with all the issues of different cell networks. Although, I just generally use my phone and wifi wherever I am staying.

Crap. I know - KNOW - i didn't make it up and Somewear was not there, but the text under Somewear was - under the heading and picture of Skyroam.
