I'll be starting my year off tomorrow fishing walleye and white bass on the st. croix river, which opens a week before the rest of Minnesota.
With the walleye itch hopefully scratched, I'll be chasing trout on the actual MN opener. That is, if I can get confirmation from the DNR that the access is open on Grindstone Lake.

I'll be around the Twin Cities hunting down bass. Probably just gonna bank fish Lake Minnetonka and other random spots, little ponds and lakes around where I live. Even if I had a boat I wouldn't wanna be on that lake on opener... it's gonna be crazy. But you can bet I'll be out there, rain or shine!

We will be in Quetico for the Canadian Opener (3rd Saturday in May)

Abbey: "Bdubr: "Crooked Lake, Walleye..."
I’m jealous. I really liked Crooked last year. I will be fishing a local lake on Saturday and then celebrating mother’s day with the family. "
It's hard to beat Crooked currents....can't wait!

I am taking 3 first timers with me going in on the 14th to Sag. On the 17th we are going to portage silver falls into Saganagons to base camp and fish for walleye and smb. Hopefully I can find some Lakers for us and if nothing else, pike. Mike, do you have any suggestions for camping and Fishing near or west of Cache bay? I normally go with a group of guys that have a few trips under their belt and know where to find fish if I'm struggling. I'm feeling the pressure to put us all on fish. Any pointers is always greatly appreciated.

I decided to not go illegally into the Dub this year. To much heat and hassling with court at 83 suxs. I’m already set up in the Superior National forest on my favorite walleye lake. Dem wallski’s run small 11-17ish. I keep em all and have huge fish frys. It wouldn’t be outta the norm for the whole lake and bar crowd to feast on these pesky dink walleyes.
Back in 83-84ish we had a huge fish fry on Sunday night opener weekend. People from Ely, Isabella, Finland, silver bay, even tower where showing up to the 100 ft bonfire feast. It was a sight to see back in the early 80’s after the motor ban in the so called bwca. Let’s just say the KDLH outta Duluth interviewed are fishing party the next week.

I have never fished that area. I have paddled through and back on a trip through the falls chain, but did not fish the area. Maybe someone else on this forum has fished this area and can chime in and give you some clues?
I can be followed on Instagram @queticomike

I have been through there twice but never fished,we were heading up North. I really want to fish it sometime. I had heard the farther East you go the better it is because people dont go that far down. I have no experience though. Is is a neat lake with bays, coves, fingers and Islands all the way down. It has to be a good/fantastic fishery.

BP and GG-
I'm tellin' ya, loooong line (braided) 6' mono leader, smallest husky jerk, work it hard along breaks. Money. I grew up in the 70's house on the west side with all the windows. Pretty lucky.
BP, we never met up in Grand Marais! Maybe this coming fall.

Oh, I'm listening. I just picked up a couple of HJ6's earlier this week after checking my tackle box. I didn't have anything that small!
BP, if you're still up there on Monday and you see me, say hi. I'll be in a very old 14-ft alumacraft with a 6hp yamaha.

Proof that lundojam knows what he’s talking about. Thanks again for the tip!
Overall it was a tough bite today. Seemed like they were in a negative or neutral mode. I was surprised to see bigger marks I was assuming were LT, much deeper than expected for this time of year. Surface temps were 48-50 and fish were holding deep, 30-60 fow.
The rainbows were surfacing but not exactly snapping. Fun day on the grind.

Basspro69: "For your info Basspro the DNR will be stocking lake trout in two mine pits in Crosby and talk of like a 20 inch minimum size in the future. There very small now,but give it 6 years or more. It is a start.Zwater: "Grindstone "Basspro69: "Brown rainbow and lake trout on the opener . Central Minnesota."
Are you headed towards the "pits?""
