Any tips for fishing this coming week? I am headed for fish stake narrows on LLC on the 18th, and I have never fished this early in the year before.

That river will warm up a lot quicker than any lake up there. I'm sure the river temps are much higher than any lake temps.

Crooked Lake was around 43.6 when we exited Sunday. Caught many Walleye as usual but the big girls were definitely spawning. Later this week the bite is going to be insane once it’s up to around 47

Would think water temp would be in the 50's.

Kawishiwi river is only 50 degrees F.,so most lakes will be colder than that still. Yes if you get a wind your surface temp could well drop down to the mid 40's in lakes with the upwelling.
Its early yet, don't hurry mother nature.

I'm heading in this weekend for some fishing. Planning on using a pretty slow presentation as the water is still pretty cold. A lot of the bass in the Twin Cities are still not chasing much but are slamming jigs. With the weather forecast for Ely looking like it is, basically rain and wind for the next week, I'm thinking the water is going to be cold. Fish might not be biting much, or they might be going wild. I'm really not sure what to expect. I'm just going to focus on staying warm and fishing as much as I can. I'm also bringing an anchor bag for the first time so I'm looking forward to being able to work a specific spot for an extended period of time. For anyone going out this weekend, stay safe, bring warm clothes, try not to tip, use them loose hips when the wind brings the waves, and I wish you tight lines!

You can tie an empty pop can to a rope and throw it into water in Fish Stake Narrows and you will catch fish.

That is a start and that is the warmest water in the lake with the warmth of the sun. A little wind and tomorrow it will be in the mid 40's. Usually in the spring at ice melt off the bottom temp is 39 degrees F.(that is the temp water is the heaviest and sinks) so you get a lot of mixing until thermoclines(sp) start setting up in late May.

50F is pretty good. I actually like fishing during the cool water of early spring. When water temps are below 55 F you can find fish by following the thermometer. On a trip to Cherokee we camped on a fantastic island spot but the main lake water temp was 45 F. We caught trout in the south end and bays where water temp was a 3-5 F degrees warmer. The last day of the trip water on our island campsite hit 50 F and we finally started getting trout from camp. Once the water temps get too high the fish are all scattered.

Returning from Brule area and W. - S.Temp etc. With the odd weather, 60s to snow flurries today on way out; water temps really flucuated. From 46F when we arrived, to 52 two days later and back down to 47 and now back to 49-50, led to odd fishing. No serious concentrations , but really spread out. Males had milk still in them , but only found that out via filleting. Females were still hanging with males . The oddest middle of May fishing I can remember in 25 years. 27.2F one night. Still snow in woods.

Yes and turning into one wet month. I think the worst mid may trip I had was on the man Chain and we got 4 inches of snow and temp held around 34 degrees F. and I wasn't prepared for that cold weather. Miserable for about 3 days plus than sun came out and it got warm.
