Heading up there a week from today....anyone head out that way for the opener? Looks like lots of walleyes being picked up in other lakes around Ely. Should I bother packing in a minnow bucket (trying to move fast and light this trip).

I have never took live bait. Thinking of taking some leaches this year. I am headed in the 8th of June let us know how the fishing is. Thanks

How did it go? I just got out from a Lake One trip (affectionately referred to as "Lake One and Done") and we had good fishing, as we always do in the numbered chain. No Walleye, but we didn't try for them either. Lots of northern and some sporadic Bass, best of which being a very nice 18.5". Almost all our fish was caught on leeches under slip bobber.

I only made it into Lake two on this trip. Other parties heading into lake three reported okay-ish success over the weekend. The guys that seemed to do the best went into Insula. The walleyes seem to be bunching up in the channels in 20' of water. I managed a couple in the channel I fished behind the island I was staying on in Lake Two. I think if I had a depth finder/GPS I could have had fish 3 meals a day while I was there......NEXT year, there will be a fish finder in my canoe! OH.....and the bite was on jig and minnow/minnow slip bobbers. Heard a few guys picking them up on cranks as well.
