Have to sell my Zephyr to make room. I also have an Old Town Pack as well.
The Blackhawk is beautiful and I hate to part with her. It even has the adjustable seat height rails. Because it would be going to another BWCA person, I'm asking $600 for the Blackhawk.
The Pack is going for $350

Where are you located again? Central Minn. here. I'll E-mail in the morning when off work.
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

Will keep you guys updated. Looks like Dicecupmaker is going to get her.
And yes, at a super price. I'm a "pay it forward" type of guy. So glad it's going to someone who would really appreciate it.
She handles like a dream and carved beautifully. Multi day trips are a breeze in it due to it's efficiency.
Secondary stability is amazing.

Glad it's going to a good home. If dcm doesn't take it I will. Quick and sporty. Pretty low volume. Not suitable for class 2/3. Took mine over a big drop and it took on water 3 times before I realized I was sitting in a boat that was under water. So I got out and then it ran me over. Learned a few lessons and bounced off some rocks. The designer was a cool guy.

I too will stay interested if dicecupmaker and justpaddlin somehow don't.
I work with a guy who had a brief stint with Blackhawk Outfitters, has some good stories about that generation of designers/builders.
Very excited for whoever gets that Zephyr!

I'm going to go ahead and withdraw my interest since I'd rather see it go to someone else. I just don't need another boat that can't take my dog.
I paddled a Zephyr for years and every other boat I tried felt like a pig compared to it. You can even overdrive it and punch through "the wall". I'm quite sure it can outrun my Merlin II. It also turns on a dime on forward maneuvers and very easy to put the rail right to the water and sometimes hard not to take on a little water.
Beginners would fall out of it so it's a little funny to see Blackhawk call it their most versatile solo (yes, for a small and experienced paddler). It's a hot boat.
But I forgot that the ICS system adds 6 pounds and for me it also interferes with my knees when kneeling.
Many old-timers (me included) would say it is Blackhawk's finest hull. If you are familiar with the Bell/Colden Flashfire...I sold mine because the Zephyr is quicker! Flash will jump faster on the first stroke but a few strokes later the Zephyr could run past that little Flash.
Not long ago I saw an ad for a Zephyr and the guy was asking $2400. And it wasn't even a Zephyr, it was a Shadow 13.
:)

This is one of those things where I got a sweet deal on it a few years ago. After paddling it and gently using it, I found I used it less and my tandem more.
While I will miss it, the wife and I are decluttering and getting rid of redundant things and systems. I have a lot to pare down and this was the hardest.
But....I also felt i should pay that deal forward and let someone else enjoy it as much as I did.
And where better to find people who would REALLY appreciate it, and actually use it than here?
Like I said before.....this is a "pay it forward" type of thing for me. Gear is made to be used.....or it does nobody any good.

Dicecupmaker called me and set up him picking her up.
I'm actually happier than a guy should be because I know we all get to enjoy just a little bit of this fine canoe with his stories and pictures.
Congrats, DCM. I know she's in good hands. Enjoy. That's all I ask.

Perfect.
Chris M. If you are interested in a Blackhawk Shadow SS you're welcome to try mine. I plan to sell it and would be happy to hold it for you. I'm in St Joseph, MI. Bought it for $800 last year. It was hardly used. I recaned the seat and spent quite a few hours on the woodwork. Happy to sell it for a loss to the right home.
There are prettier boats out there except - no there aren't.
??

The Shadows were Blackhawk's economy line...note the mahogany outwales and fitted thwarts and carry handles.

At 180lbs myself, I always felt right on the edge with the zephyr. It’s v Hull is stable with a slight heel to one side or another.
I’d LOVE to try an Ariel. Bob is that yours I saw for sale? If I could find one in gold layup without the ICS I would be pretty tempted...
Meanwhile I’m getting by with a wildfire.

justpaddlin, that's very kind of you, and I may have to take you up on that if I find myself travelling to that area. And it's pretty with the 2 tone wood. What's the layup?
The Ariel has always been the top Blackhawk I've been after, the Zephyr second. It seems I always have a full garage when one of these pops up and I've been told I have to get rid of something first!
Congrats dicecupmaker, that's an exciting new addition!

justpaddlin,
If you want to e-mail me I would love to learn more about this boat. Unlike most of my age group (early 30's) I prefer canoes (though I dabble in the dark art of SUP, it reminds me of poling dugout canoes back home as a kid), and I'm making it a major life goal to learn about and paddle as many canoes as I can.
If my board sells I will have high interest in this boat, especially as I appreciate the care you have put into the boat (I'm not patient enough for that, do I hear any millenial jokes?).

Chris and kona, we should be connected by email now. I'm not comfy leaving my email always available on this site since I've had some problems.
I've got more than my share of canoes so would be happy to let the Shadow go to a good home. Let's see if Chris wants it. Kona, if you are in the area we can still go for a paddle if you like. I can lend you a different solo if the Shadow isn't still here.
And if either of you is around 6' tall or a bit more you might leave with a nice paddle at a bargain price too.
I had an Ariel in the past. It's also a sweet boat. In my view the Ariel likes to have a load to really be at it's best. With my black lab curled up in front of me it felt amazing...just amazing unstoppable glide plus great handling. I sold mine to a close friend for a good price and then he sold it (I would have bought it back). I think there's a nice one for sale on paddling.com.
Hey flashback, if you bought that blue Ariel at Rutabaga I think I test paddled it. If you didn't buy it at Rutabaga then there are least 2 blue ones out there.
I'm pretty sure I'd have Blackhawk withdrawal if I didn't have at least one in my little fleet since it's happened to me before but fortunately I've also got a Combi 15.8 to keep me pacified.
Cheers guys.
