Me too. Good people there, and what a wonderful historic place!
We have stayed in Charlie's Room in the lodge many nights, and have also rented a cabin for our trips with Anna a couple times. Have had their nice breakfasts before canoe trips, and savored pie and coffee in the afternoon. One of my favorite places.

Typically, this forum celebrates those looking to retire and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
I assume the current owners are selling of their own volition. I wish them success with their sale and happiness in their next phase of their lives.

True but the melancholy comes from the end of an era.

Hopefully the new owners can carry on and keep the traditions alive. Running a place like that takes a lot of energy so its not surprising if the current owners want to retire and enjoy some downtime. Hopefully thats all it is.
Ownership of Rockwood changed just a few years ago and it seems like the new owners have done nothing but make Rockwood better. Hope for the same at Clearwater.

Knowing nothing of the specifics of the situation, all I will say, is they provided us with probably the best pre-trip breakfast I've ever had, included with a stay in their bunkhouse. Just piled all the bacon, fruit, toast, pancakes, and sausage we could eat out on the table and we went to town, before towing us across Clearwater. Awesome service.

I kinda wonder what happened. Mocha, was that the young couple that just bought that a few years ago?

My understanding is that the owners live in the West, and hired a local couple to run it....Hard to own and run a business from a thousand miles away . They've only owned it about 6 or 7 years.

On a positive note, the new owners of Snowbank Lodge (FKA Smitty's) are amazing, and I look forward to saying there in the future. Good folks, hard workers and they just survived their first and a tough winter out on the point. If you ever get a chance to hear how they helped folks off of the lake during the early March wind storm, it is a good one.
