My wife & I are heading out on Brule next weekend for a few days. Any advice?

According to the DNR site, there is lake trout in this lake. Has anybody had any luck catching any? I've never caught one in the BWCA, but it would be fun. Any particular bait besides throwing lures? I've read to throw spoons or hook & crawler or leach?

Anybody have any words of wisdom as to where we could find some perch? So far, we are planning on bringing night crawlers & leeches. It seems to be a hassle bringing in minnows unless somebody can change my mind

Thanks all! All input is greatly appreciated!

I began fishing Brule with my dad in 1957, which includes many early June trips over the years. I recall seeing some photos on the Brule Island Camp bulletin board of a guest taking some large native Lake Trout, but have never caught one or talked to anyone that did. It is possible that there are Lakers, but I think that it is very unlikely that you will catch one. Maybe some have been stocked in recent years, but I don't know of that taking place. We haven't fished Brule in many years, so you should seek info that is up to date. Brule is a good walleye lake and would recommend fishing the inlet streams in North Bay this time of year. I have seen many reports of good smallmouth fishing in recent years. Back in the 50's and 60's walleye and northern pike were the most common catches. I see according the DNR site that there is a population of perch in the lake, but have never caught one myself. I have experienced good walleye and smallmouth catches on night crawlers and leeches, but would take some minnows to be sure of a good catch. Slow trolling live bait with a spinner and slip sinker is a good method, as is slip bobber fishing in the creek mouths. Good luck with the weather. I know that it means a lot when you are camping, but I have seen snow back in the forest upon arriving at Brule in early June. In more recent years it can get up to 90 degrees around that time of year. It snowed once when we were camped on Brule. Some one said that they make the weather in the BWCA. I recall in the early years that it you could get a brief shower almost every day.
