I need to get a couple of new inflatable sleeping pads. My Exped Synmats have seen better days, but I have been pleased with them over the years and just might purchase another. But before that, I would like to look at a couple other brands - Nemo, Thermarest, and maybe save some weight without skipping comfort. We all know the drill.
I need to use them in all my Big Agnes bags so they need to be 20" x 72" rectangular max 3" thick and certainly have to be insulated to some degree. We use these pads a lot in the shoulder seasons canoeing and hiking so I certainly like to have them lite as I'm trying to lighten my backpack load weight, not as important to me when I go lite canoeing .
For hiking, I do bring a Thermarest Z-lite closed cell foam pad from time to time if I think temperatures require it. I've also had a couple of BA pads thru the years and for the most part was not happy with our experiences with them from going flat and not providing enough warmth. Since those days, I know BA has come out with a lot of new sleeping mats. Just did a few days up in the BWCA at the first of May and the Exped Synmat 7 left us a little cold. Understandable with the temps we had, but at night, the bags are starting to lose air. No complaints as each pad has around two hundred nights of use.
I have a Q-Core SLX from Big Agnes and really like it. I bought it for my first trip last year and it worked very well. I am a big guy, really big, and never hit the ground. I have used it only about 30ish times since last June and my brother borrowed it for a couple weeks and it still works well. My neighbor rented a cosmo with the foot pump and said it was really comfortable too.
