Hey everyone. Leading a group of 5 in an area we have never been before. This is our 5th year of going to the bwca, but we've always gone up the Gunflint previous to this year.

We are heading up to Boulder Bay on LLC on May 30 - June 2. We have a wide range of fishing skills in our group. A couple of our guys are inexperienced fishermen and are perfectly content using a slip bobber and leech the whole time. I am looking for specific locations we should focus our efforts. I am guessing the river will be pretty high.

For those who has fished the area, if you're going around the first of June, would you start with Boulder Bay, Boulder River, or Lake Agnes? Has anyone tried the Dahlgren River? Where have you had the best luck for walleyes? Smallmouth? Pike? Are you willing to share a specific location?

I picked this route because of the great recommendations from helpful people on this site. Your input will be greatly appreciated!

Love that area, probably had 8 to 12 trips over the years to the Boulder Bay/LLC area. Always like either of the campsites 1820 or 1821 on the little island in the bay. Puts you close to all the good fishing. We are a trolling group, hand tied spinner rigs, that time of year walleye's, pike, and smallies should be shallow still. The river all along it is amazing if you hit it right, Huge crappies in there if you can find them. Love to share more idea's or tactics. Email? Finger on the east side coming out of the river is always good. Every kind of bottom structure there. sand, pebble, rock to boulder point with steep drop off.

I'm basically in the same situation as you...

Taking a group of 4 up the same route with the same general locations in mind except we enter Saturday the 1st and are staying a total of four nights. One big fisherman in the group (myself) and everyone else basically feels like they're happy to give it a try as part of the whole adventure.

I think I'm planning to bring enough leeches to cover our time as well as a bunch of jigs and plastics for backup. Hopefully we both are graced with favorable weather and excellent catching!
