My late May trip this year looks like it's going to be a bit chilly.
Current Clothing List:
Merrell Hiking Boots
Merrell Barefoot Running Shoes
(1) Wool Long Underwear (Top + Bottom)
(1) Fleece
(1) Shorts
(4) Pairs of Wool Socks
(2) Underwear
(2) T-Shirts
Rain Jacket
Rain Pants
Down Puffer Jacket
Anyone else heading up next week? What does your clothing bag consist of?
What do you typically bring for longer trips?

I would remove the jacket and shorts and add a lined flannel and long sleeve t shirt (like a merino wool one).
That way you'd have long underwear - merino shirt - fleece - lined flannel - rain jacket. Is that the right way to layer... idk but that is how I do it if it gets really cold. Obviously a hat and gloves as well.

I like what your list has as that is pretty close to what I bring. Hopefully your "fleece" is a fleece top? Hopefully it is a 200 or 300 weight top as that is a good combination over your long underwear.
I don't see a long sleeve quick dry shirt on your list so I would add that. I would also add an insulating hat of some kind. I bring fleece mittens with rain resistant shell when I am paddling in cold/rainy weather.
I also bring a light wind blocker vest that is fleece lined. I find in many situations while paddling I want my core covered while my arms are only covered by my quick dry shirt. I tend to run hot when it comes to temperatures so the vest is perfect for me.
I would keep the puffer down jacket. I find my down jacket with hood to be indispensable on a cold rainy day. I simply wear it under my rain coat if it's raining hard.
What foot wear do you portage in?

No pants??
I would add spare nylon pants.
I assume you are wearing one pair and the other is for nighttime and if the first gets wet.
Don't forget a wool hat and gloves. Even good work gloves are wonderful
Ditto on adding a long sleeve quick dry shirt. They do add warmth. Underneath goes the Merino wool underwear.
I don't see a future for shorts on the trip.

I don't bring shorts, I bring pants that provide sun and bug protection. Long sleeve shirt, too. Hats, gloves, buff. Clean dry base layer, socks, and cap for sleep packed in the waterproof compression stuff sack with the sleeping bag.

+1 But I use shorts during the day, even in the cooler spring and fall weather. The pants are for around camp in the evening.

In May one thing I love brining is my hooded wool boreal shirt. Mine is home made, but very similar to what you can get from Lester River Bushcraft . Great in cold, windy, wet conditions. Remember, there was snow in Duluth just a couple days ago.
