Hi all,

Would the first two weekends in June be too late to go for Lake Trout? Anyone have any ideas on water temps in the BWCA where trout are? Good lakes for lake trout/brook/rainbows?

Any advice for fly fishing lake trout or trout in general in the BWCA?

Thank you!

They like cooler waters, last year we caught them the 2nd week of June and that was a very warm spring. This year they should be shallower yet if anything compared to last year. So...yes you can still catch them. Mid summer they go deep to stay in the cold water and then they're harder to find

You should be fine catching lakers at that time. As the water warms they head deeper, but so do you.
Trolling and jigging deeper water can be very productive as the season goes on.

I was just out on Thursday and we had a little luck trolling between 12 and 15 feet. They are still shallow in the early morning and later in the evening. We didn't seem to have any luck when trolling deeper than 20 feet. I would say the first two weekends in June you should find them 20-40'. I had the most luck on a Deep Down Husky Jerk.
