I caught this sucker while jigging for walleye a couple weeks ago up on Crooked. I have had a hard time identifying the species. The adipose fin does not seem to match with any sucker/redhorse species. Any thoughts?

I think that's a lake whitefish.

Yes whitefish. Suckers do not have an adipose fin.

Awesome! Thank you all for your help. I feel like I should have known that, but somehow I had previously never caught one. Happy Fishing

I have only caught whitefish while ice fishing, but the color is usually much lighter for the fish that I’ve seen. I would not have immediately thought whitefish either with that dark coloration. Whitefish have a really nice, mild flavor.

Have not done this in years, but we used to course grind the Lake Whitefish fillets with egg, saltines/potato/panko, seasoning, form into patty's, then pan fry... they make a very tasty fish sandwich!

I tried to smoke whitefish once -- but I couldn't keep it lit. (sorry old joke, but I couldn't resist)

Patty's I could easily get on board with.
