ISO of dog friendly cabin rental, family of two. July 28th - July 31st. I know it will be in the dog days of summer but would love to be able to fish for smallmouth and walleye near bye. I will be with my wife, newborn son (3 months) and 25lb mixed bread doggie :)

Thanks

Check with Gunflint Lodge to see if anything is available at that time.

I would also check in with Hungry Jack Lodge. Not BWCA but right next to BW lakes on the Gunflint trail. HJ Lake is managed by the DNR as a trophy smallmouth fishery. We caught too many to count last year, and some good size ones. They have dogs that live on the property and I assume their cabins are pet-friendly.

On the Ely side, check the Northwind Lodge, it’s close to lots of Entry Points for day trips and good local fishing. They have several cabins and I think they’re running some specials right now.

Good Luck... that is the busiest time up there and it may be hard to find something available this late in the game. We are staying at Rockwood close to that time with our family of 5 and 90 lb lab. We booked in March and got the last available cabin.

I just went though and checked the online availability for the places up there that I know allow dogs and couldn't find anything. There are others so hopefully someone on here can help you find something.

Try calling Trail Center Lodge and hopefully you get lucky. They only have 2 cabins... we have stayed in both of them with our dog. Both times it was early August and we were able to catch smallies and walleye right from the dock. Plus.... they have the best restaurant in the world.

I haven't checked availability but Poplar Haus on the Gunflint allows dogs. I haven't stayed there yet but have 3 nights booked with my family early August.

Hungry Jack Lodge & Campground is dog-friendly. Cabins w/ private docks. Folks who run it are friendly and laid back. Don't expect a posh resort atmosphere. That's not the vibe. The downstairs bar is super nice with a deck overlooking lawn and kids swim area in one corner.
Resident dogs are Remington & Sterling.

They got a new lab named Winter too!

My kid and I always go to HJL to shoot pool and eat a burger & fries when we're on the trail.

I think you may have a harder time finding a cabin with availability than you will finding a cabin that allows dogs. Many of the cabins during the prime season fill up very quickly so you're best bet is to start calling around and see what availability there is first and hopefully one of them will allow dogs.

Years ago we stayed at a resort on big lake that was dog friendly. I think it was lodge of the whispering pines. It’s on the echo trail. It’s been awhile so I don’t know if the owners are the same.

Hope to greet Winter in a couple of weeks when I visit for pre-trip burger & brew.
Forest got hitched since I was there last. And, a baby too.

I've never eaten at HJL...... I love a good burger! We will try to get there for one of our meals when we stay at Rockwood later this summer.

Question about the Bar/Restaurant.... how busy is it during the summer? It' s hard to get a table at Trail Center anytime of day during the time we'll be up there so it's good to have other places to go if the wait is really long.

This time up there I have a goal to eat at HJL and/or the Poplar Haus in addition to our usual Trail Center stop.

Ducks, my tripping is usually in late June and I don't know if gets crazy-busy later in summer months. When you enter HJL lodge you're on 2nd floor where greeted with fireplace, sofa and area for dining. Office cubby immediately to the right. Go downstairs (signage) to the lounge for hamburgers/quick order stuff & beverages. Lots of small tables, some larger tables too and a bar at back wall. Lots of room & tables. Old-timey jukebox.
I've not encountered rowdy or loud there. Menu is handed out at the bar upon request. A different menu than the preplanned menu for reserved dining upstairs. I last visited 5 yrs. ago.
