Major explosion, followed by a massive boil, followed by a screaming drag run. Once I wore it down, my buddy towed us to shore to land it. I knew it was probably at least 40 when I hooked it.

I feel that way sometimes when 5 pounders hit it.

Nice pike, we catch them on frogs in the Lilly pads on a river back here in Indiana, its a lot of fun catching pike on top water.

AWESOME... wish I could've witnessed that! As mentioned earlier, what a great fish and experience!

Awesome fish Mike. I'm sure the smallies appreciated that pike tying you up for a few minutes to give them a break.

I think that pike was keeping all of the smallmouth out of the area so I had to remove her...LOL

Nice pic Mike! What lb test you use with something like this? I was under the assumption you’d need a steel/titanium leader for a fish like this as well? I’m headed up in a few weeks and hoping to emulate you.

MissMolly, I wanted to thank you again for all of the wonderful fishing lures you gifted last year. I’ve recruited two BWCA rookies to head up in a few weeks and the lures will hopefully get lots of use!

It would be cool if someone with video skills would put the "Be like Mike" song to photos of Mike's fish.

Great pike, Mike! How deep? In the thick stuff with a topwater?

I absolutely would not know how to land a fish that large. Remarkable fish indeed.

Well once you think you have the fish halfway under control have your partner paddle you to shore :) I had a 41 inch pike on once in a solo canoe and had to paddle one handed and fight the fish in the other hand, that was an adventure. It was also the last fish of the trip as well. Figured that was a good way to end a trip.

About 5 feet or so over a sandy area with reeds.

Got this one the first day when we got to camp. Had another one about this size but didn't take a picture of it cuz my buddy was busy doing something. Caught my fair share of slimers and they took me for a few lures.
