Are you talking about that 3rd picture? Sorry about that, it almost made me crack a smile.

QMike,
Do you typically wear polarized shades while fishing and take them off for pictures?

Mostly. Also caught a bunch on the Pop-R. Green pumpkin tubes and chartreuse spinner baits got a few too. The water was still real cold and no fish moved up along shoreline. Had to look for warmer water. Found them in sandy areas with reeds. Also found some that would move up onto shallow points that had deep water right next to the area.

I especially like that last one, Mike.

And I saw that little smile with the third one.

Wow, that's some good work. I heard the water was cold so I thought the bass action would be slow but I guess not. I'm heading to Basswood this weekend for a few days, hoping for some SM Bass. Does anyone in Ely carry your patented Zman shad lures? I was reading about how you rig that in some of the threads. We usually use senkos in the spring or poppers on a fly rod but a new rig sounds good. Thanks for sharing (and inspiring!) All the best

I agree with missmolly, that little smirk in the third picture is priceless. It tells me that even after all the smallies you've caught you still enjoy just as much as you always have.

It's now the second picture. I removed the old second picture because I just noticed it was the same fish as the first picture. My buddy must have taken two shots of that one. Hard to remember that after 2 weeks, but I noticed they looked like the same fish, so I removed it and added a different fish to the end of the pictures.

The water was very cold and the bass action was slow. Had to work hard to find bass. They weren't close to the shoreline last week. Had to find them out away from shore. Sandy flats with reeds were key, they were in that area warming up and chasing bait fish. Also long extending rocky points out into the lake with deep water drop offs next to them.

It's amazing how many different colors and patterns these fish produce from the same waters and areas.

Those are some nice fish.

Since you mentioned the water is cold I'd imagine that everything (spawn, bugs, etc.) is pushed back a week or two from normal.

BTW, someone needs to come up with an original way to take photos of fish. Every photo is "Here I am, here's the fish." I've tried to think of something different but it's darn hard.

Thanks, when I was there a week ago they weren't close to spawning. The black flies were horrible, only saw a few skeeters the whole time.

That is pretty much the standard MO for fish picture taking. If you want to see options or creative ways to take fish pictures go to Instagram, they take pics in all manners.

I was semi-joking about the pics. We all take that same picture all the time. As you said, pretty standard.

Just got back myself. Concur on the flies. WOW! Forgot to cover the top of my ears with my buff one day and had blood all over my hat. Seemed like the water temps were about 10 degrees colder for this time period. I found SMB in every stream inlet. So thick they pushed all the eyes out even at dusk. LT were phenomenal!

Going to give serious consideration to going in a week later or more next year.

They are all great!
150 miles and 53 portages.
Weather was good. Flies were bad a few days.
Primarily a LT route. Caught them in 13 lakes.
Visited 5 sets of pictographs that I hadn't seen previously.
Saw some structure on Argo and Burt that looked like SMB heaven in the summer months.

How was your moose/wind/indiana in 2019? Was it better than fishing clearwater to west pike?

You would probably be better off clicking on his little envelope and get his email address and send a direct message. Not sure what the odds are that bridge4life is still following this thread. On a side note - Lord I miss Quetico :)
