Yep, I used a SPOT in the BW last June.

I launched a rescue in the BW

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Wow, thanks for sharing, this is quite the story. This man certainly had the perfect person in you being there at the right time, amazing how things work like that sometimes. It is certainly cheap insurance in a device to have on you that could save a life. I know I would be hating myself if I ever got into this situation and didn't have a device like this on me or didn't keep the service up to date. I was in the BWCA that same week with my wife but over off the Echo Trail.
