I bought one last year. Used it for the first time last week worked well the first couple of days but the extraordinary high amount of pollen in the water dramatically slowed its performance. Ended up having to “swish” the filter after every liter of water. That being said I’m pretty confident that any filter would have been tested. There were times that the pollen looked like yellow paint on the water.
I used one about 2 weeks ago, brand new. Worked ok, but when I got home I noticed the filter had black crud around the edges. Swished around in water, did all the things the instructions said couldn't get rid of the crud. I'll be making a run to REI and see what they say. I was planning on getting another, not necessarily the same brand, because 3 liters of water goes pretty fast.

Like mine a lot.
If the water has visible particulates, I will pre filter thru a bandana.
Had it two seasons and so far so good.
