Made a harness for bear resistant canister that attaches to the front of my backpack shoulder straps.

Nicely done! I once took my hot tent on a trip and clipped the stove to the front of my backpack straps too. Very easy with carabiners (mini would do) and actually rather comfortable.

Are those reflector strips? Did you apply them?

Yes, I added the reflector tape to aid in locating at night as recommended by other members.

I just finished sewing straps for my wife's canister. She wanted a bigger canister and wanted to carry it in hand or shoulder not on front.

I single portage and carry food bag on front whenever it will not fit in my backpack.

"

nice work - just ensure that you can see your feet while portaging.

I have taken Kondos packs, altered them to fit blue barrels and use them . Take in the sides and shape the lid.

I put a closed cell foam sleeping pad around the barrel for carrying.

How did you sew the straps? Using a sewing machine?

Strapping, heavy fabric and canvas sews well and holds tight if using the heavy duty "outdoor" threads - (poly or nylon) just remember to use a larger (18-20 size needle) and tighten the TOP tension on the machine - leave the lower tension alone.

Nice box seams. Mine are never that straight and even.
Did you put some sort of stiffening rod inside the webbing handle? THAT is a great idea!
