I may not always make a distinct post about gear I'm thinking about. Most times I try to use the search function. Most of the things I've looked at are to figure out if what I already own will do, or not. If not, what are my reasonable options? Are there consistent opinions on one or more versions of the product? Is the piece of gear I am looking for a necessity, a pure want, or what?

I'm happy to say there is nothing left on my list to get for my trip in September. I'm sure I'll find a few items, but for the most part, my backpacking trips have helped me with most things.

Thank You, forum members, for making this easier for my first trip.

Just leave it to this group to help you empty your wallet at gear stores. :)

Apparently I have a bit of a reputation for that!

Enjoy your trip and many more WMonkey!

Yes, years of backpacking have left me well equipped for canoe tripping. I even had a small folding Silky Saw I could throw in my pack if hiking with others and thought a campfire might be enjoyed. It worked fine for small, short lived fires on the trail.

So, I didn't need (or did I?) the Agawa Canyon Boreal 21 saw that arrived this morning. I didn't even know of its existence until a thread on saws popped up on the gear forum. An while I would nevel add that much weight to my backpacking load, it is a reasonable tool to add to a canoe tripping pack.

Need vs Want; I can justify either argument. It will, however, make my next wilderness experience different. In fact, each new piece of gear has the potential to open the door to a new unexpected experiences. I look forward to my next BWCA trip with my new tool.

Good Luck with your gear list WonderMonkey.

It's a good place to be in. I am also in a place where I don't feel like I 'need' anything. Last year I went all in on a hammock setup and cut 6 lbs off my pack weight. I love my Prism.

From here on, it's just fine tuning.

Congrats on reaching a good place.

Oddly enough, I DID have a small Silky Saw and just last week my Agawa Boreal 21 saw arrived! Exactly as you. When I pulk in during the Winter I'll take that Boreal 21 saw in with me but like you say, I wouldn't on a normal backpacking trip.

Some items I bought to add a layer of enjoyment. No doubt I've made some purchases that will get left home in the future.

Due to gear upgrading while thinking I had finally got my pack together I am contemplating opening an outfitting/rental service. Seriously the doubles of this and that are adding up, but you just got to justify that one new improvement....
I just got a Thundercloud tarp from Warbonnet and cut lines and set it up for the first time this weekend. How can it be so light, so small and cover so much area? And the snake skins gobble it up into such a nice package for packing.
So what was that talk about saws....you guys are such enablers.

If, when packing for a trip, you don't sit there and stare at your options and contemplate them for a bit, then you don't have enough.

There, now go order the Agawa Canyon Boreal21 saw with your choice of blades.
