I have not fished Iron before, but I would suggest to not rule out fishing swallow water in August. Water in the 12-16 foot depth will hold fish in the early morning and evening hours or even on cloudy days. The best swallow water fishing spots are those adjacent to deeper water. If you are taking kids without a lot of walleye fishing experience, I would suggest using leeches and even slip bobbers. Pinch points, places of current, mid lake reefs or rock humps and points that drop off to deeper water are all good. Also, fish the best times, early morning and late evening. Use the mid day times for napping, eating lunch, playing cards and swimming. You can catch more fish in the first 1.5 hours of morning and late evening than you can if you fish midday for 8 hours.

Swallow water? I disagree. Walleyes can be caught anytime of day in moving water below the falls.

This is true ^ but I have caught lots walleyes on Iron the last week of august in a bay that doesn't get any deeper than 6 feet. Shallow is good especially if you can find the salad.
