30 years ago today, I was putting onto the Nelson River near Norway House, Manitoba with an incredible group of young women. By the evening of July 22nd, we were caught up in the craziness of forest fire evacuations when we reached Cross Lake. I am hoping to review the trip journals later this summer and write up a trip report. It was a trip to remember.

+1, would love to read that one. I'll bet you'd love to relive it . . .

Looking foreward to reading it as well.

Does it go something like this?
Gilligans Island

The weather started getting rough,
Our tandem canoes were tossed,
If not for the courage of sraighthairedcurly,
The forest would be lost, the forest would be lost :-)

You should post it.

30 years ago I was packing for a month-long paddle across northern Ontario to Hudson Bay (at Fort Severn). There was a staggering amount of smoke for most of that trip and I remember being able to see a sunspot for several days with the naked eye.

There you go writing songs again. I gotta say, that one has a good ring to it.

Straighthairedcurly, that was a dream trip I’ll go to my grave not doing. I’ll look forward to reading about it and living it through your words. I’m not sad about it as I just chose to paddle in other areas. So many places not enough time...

Yep, that was a bad year. They ended up closing all of northern Manitoba to wilderness travel.
