There is a wildfire burning on Daniels Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Volunteer firefighters from the Gunflint Trail and a team from Camp Menogyn initially responded at fire halls and Menogyn at 11:40 Friday morning. Forest Service firefighters traveled to the scene and took the lead on responding to the fire.

There is no immediate word on what started the fire. The blaze was about 50 to 70 ft. in diameter with several trees fully engulfed in flames at 11:50 a.m. Friday, according to reports from staff at Camp Menogyn.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Sending positive vibes to all who are battling it. Be safe! Hopefully no injuries or loss of property.

Latest update ... the fire is 20 feet in diameter, first report was it was 70 feet in diameter. Seems like progress is being made.

Let's hope it doesn't get contained. Decades of suppression has been detrimental to forest health. We need frequent fires to keep the enormous hot burning fires from ripping through our forests.
I live in a rural forested area and we could surely use a good forest fire. But alas that will never happen so the dead timber and disease outbreaks just become more prevalent.

Nobody likes to see a burnt out forest, but that’s exactly what (some) areas need the most. I trust the right thing will be done here.

I don't know the exact location of the fire, but Camp Menogyn is located on the narrow bit of land between West Bearskin and Daniels. I am sure the concern is if it got out of control, the camp would be endangered. No recent updates so I am guessing it is out.
