Please give me some good options for bunkhouses or motels near the Northshore.

Any particular part of the North Shore? What do you consider to be a good option?

True bunk houses can be tough to find in that area. I've wound up using the Americinn in Tofte for my entries at Kawishiwi, Sawbill and Baker Lake. I've seen the Cliff Dweller mentioned. If you want more backwoods feel, you could try the Knotted Pine by Isabella. I had some friends stay there and they liked it.

I usually just stay in Grand Marais a little farther up the shore.

Americin in Tofte is OK. Was getting a little run down a few years ago, but they may have remodeled. It wasn't bad. Kind of pricey. Bluefin is across the HWY 61 and within walking distance. Great burgers and fantastic view of Lake Superior. Kind of pricey, but after a trip, it is a welcome stop. Those are my two places to end up after a trip ending at Sawbill or Kawishiwi Lakes.
