part of my plan B is going to drive in camps and just paddling around a bit.
the tent i'm using is a older nylon one I can put a cot and chair in,no more
sleeping on the ground.during a storm the tent wet thru even with 3 cans of
spray WP on it.so on the web I read about using the water seal on old tents.
the poster said he brushed it on and it worked but the fabric was somewhat stiff.
well I did that but after two weeks the tent is still oily.right now I have it up in
the rafters in the garage where I hope the heat will dry it but a quick check and it
does not feel dry.i may end up washing the seal off and trying another WPing.
any ideas?
the photo is after a couple days when I dry brushed it to try and get some of the
oil off.

I would seriously consider buying a new tent. Even a cheap tent nowadays is pretty darn water tight. I wouldn't waste spending a lot of money on WP products.

I believe the heat - like in an attic - degrades the material and water repellant. I tossed one old tent stored in garage attic that clearly detiorated from heat.

I used to put Thompson water sealer on all tents albeit cheap tents and it worked great. I usually left it to dry in the sun for a day or 2. although I never brushed it on I always used the stuff in a can and sprayed it on perhaps it was put on to thick. I have never used it on my UL tents.

dude I think you have it.i put it on to thick.this is a job that grew legs.
the tent is just right, big square floor and I can stand and cook if I need too.
I have a bunch of tents but they are more for canoe tripping.
one I got as a give-away at the yard sale looks like it will be the
replacement if this one is a loss.
