Does anyone take the canoe out for a night float just to get a better view of the sky?
I had not really considered it on previous trips, but the prediction was for a possibility of northern lights on our second night out this trip. We ended up on a north shore site, and we had a solo canoe along this year. The site had plenty of trees, so just getting out to a bigger sky was great even though no Aurora arrived. I ended up going out the third and fourth/final nights of the trip too. Great stars, and a different experience.

There is a new moon (no moon) on Aug. 29, 30, and 31. I will be just starting my Quetico trip and hope to paddle out on the lake to take it all in. Hopefully weather conditions cooperate one of those nights.

Left from near center of Lake Agnes (Q) with Boy Scouts around 3:00 AM with a full moon and bright Northern Lights covering half or more of the sky. Completely calm with reflections of far shore as well. Breakfast was after sunup.
